What is this?

Ha I put them on the gravel driveway and drive over them and pick out gravel now LOL
ok, well then YEAH this nutcracker works really well for black walnuts. You can go thru a pile of nuts fairly quickly.
For those not familiar w black walnuts, they are a very tough nut to crack. Ordinary nutcrackers will not do it.
This year we collected our excess nuts and sold them to Hammons which buys walnuts from people like me who rake them up out of their yards and fields. They set up 'hulling stations' in 219 communities all over the midwest, and pay maybe $17 per 100lb hulled, it varies year to year. I think we got about $40 for a truckload. (not a lot, but you don't want to leave them in your yard, try to mow over them etc.) They average 25 million lbs a year, all collected by individuals. They are the only company selling black walnuts commercially as far as I know so if you see them in the baking aisle at your supermarket, know that some of those nuts were collected by me!

Have you tried tapping your trees and make syrup from them?

It sells for $3.50 an ounce at this place.

If you gather around 100-120 gallons of sap you would have a gallon of syrup...that gallon is $450...compared to my maple syrup at $1 an ounce or $110 a gallon.

I was wondering how much a truck load brought. nearest place is 4 hrs away so I wasn't making the trip to sell them anyway :barnie
I have a "nut wizard" to pick up the ones closest to the house.
Actually, the rest I do mow them up and bag them.. so they don't break or kill something flying out the deck. Hard on the blades but the turkeys love them.

whoa that nutcracker $113.. a lot of money to me... Just think how many chickens I could buy for that :gig
