Cicadas are pretty cool, but noisy. They shed their... exoskeleons? late in the summer.

are they once every 17 years?

There are many species of cicadas, emerging at different years. Some emerge every year. Some years there is a convergence of several types, then it gets really loud. You can recognize different species by their calls. Some, like the Q. gigas, are so loud you can barely sleep....

The scariest movie I watched was "Friday the 13th". I was in 8th grade, home alone with orders not to watch cable. So, of course I did. My bedroom was in the basement. I slept with the light on for a week.
