Maybe the ducks brought it in, I doubt it, but I guess it's possible. It would be unlikely, given the set up that we have, that another bird flew through and dropped it. It definitely isn't a robin's egg. And, I will pay attention to see if the cowbirds are here yet, but I don't think they are.
I also thought that maybe a rodent dragged it in, ewwwww. I hope we don't have a rat hanging around again. That is not gonna make me happy. I refuse to poison them, and my husband doesn't want to shoot it because of the close proximity to the house. So, we will have to try to trap it, and the suckers are smart and a total pita to try to trap. Grrrrr.
I think it looks like a robin egg too. Cowbird eggs are cream/white with brown speckles somewhat similar to quail eggs. We have tons of cowbirds around here. Sometimes if a bird has to lay they will lay.. Or like someone else suggested, one of your ducks, or even a rodent/scavenger of some sort may have dragged it in(?)
Its not a cowbird egg. Cowbirds dont nest at all. Ever.
You little mixed duck probably just layed a little fart egg. Also its not a wild bird egg so far as I'm concerned. A wrinkled ,miss-shapen egg just laying around is not typical of a wild bird at all.
It looks nothing like any bird egg I have ever seen...except maybe in shape and color. Natural bird eggs are not shriveled up and wrinkly like that. It must be deformed and if that's the truth it could have come from anywhere...most likely on of you ducks.
But it is such an unusual color. None of the three lay colored eggs. This one is a greenish blue, or bluish green, not sure which! Oh well, a mystery. It was just so strange to find it this am.
