What is this?

I used to be a big believer in Ivermec pour on but it has totally stopped working for ALL mites/lice on my flock.

They must have developed resistance to it. Now Sevin is the only thing I can find that works! Now my white pea won't let me within 25 feet of him even when I am not carrying the bottle around! That bird has a memory!!!!!

Its pretty hard to get the adult peas, and have to be so careful of eyes. I got some on one of my younguns last time. :( they thrash, scratch and wriggle so bad!

Is it a spray ? Do you have a big flock? Mines 10 hens 1 Roo then I have 1 Roo and 2 bantams in another coop. Wondering if it will cover that amount of chickens . I went to check on then a bit ago and the worms are worse then before I gave them ivermax. Which I was informed would not work . I'll agree I that one! I'm off to the feed store hoping they carry the items I need as it seems they don't order often. Plus tell me the WRONG info. I'm so thankful for this site/ thread or I would be going crazy! I'm already close , I just want then healthy again.
Excuse any errors looking for my glass's

You have chickens not Peacocks right? I remember reading somewhere that someone used to put the Sevin dust( same stuff you put on your garden veggies) in some sort of bag or pillowcase or something. Then they would put the chicken into the bag up to its neck, and close the bag around the neck holding it closed with one hand. Somehow they would shake the bagged chicken around a little to get that Sevin dust all over it. This would help keep it out of the bird's eyes and keep it from getting all over you. I have never tried it myself, so I can't say how it works, but it seemed like a pretty good idea when I read it.

You need Sevin dust, hon. It is a powder and is NOT going to be found for poultry as it is used in gardening for bugs.

You might call around to see who might sell it, like Menard's, or a garden shop or Orschelns farm and home type store. It might be hard to find this time of year. I will post a pic of what it looks like.

In California, the Northern Fowl Mite has become somewhat resitant to Sevin (carbaryl) dust, so if that doesn't work, try Poultry Dust (Permethrin) instead. I will try to find the UC Davis article that said that.

Thanks Kathy

Those darned northern fowl mites are what I have I think. I know they have become resistant to my Ivermectin.:(. Arvin at least still kills them here but I didn't pay attention to th Angie's location,

I know they were going to ban Sevin but they lifted that and I haven't heard anything new.

Angie, I have both. My mite prob got out of control when I bought my white male peacock this last summer. They are both susceptible to a lot of the same bugs.

I wormed him and did ivermectin treatment while in isolation, not realizing the ivermec didn't take care of his mite prob til too late.

Angie if you can find Kathys type of dust it would be better considering your location.

When you do dust them, make sure you really get butt (vent area) and up under wings really well. And do your whole flock. If you can you need to do coop roosts, nest boxes, the whole nine yards! It's a pain!

And then dust them again 10 days from the first time, that is for the mite eggs that didn't get killed and may be hatching from the first adults you killed.

WOW! You guys know your stuff!! If I can't find it I'll try to order it. Thank you so much, I so appreciate your information ! I'll do another round of deworming as well. Give them the yogurt, ACV, and molasses. With some good veggies and feed I hope they will be back on track in next few weeks. I'll keep you posted

I use Seven dust, I pour a small amount in the foot of a knee high nylon, lightly tie a knot, then gently powder puff them where needed. Make sure to wear long pants, long sleeves, gloves & a dust mask. What worked for me this Spring was to go out in the a.m. before I let the chickens out in the run. Take 1 chicken out of the coop at a time, treat it then put it in the run when dusted.
