What is wrong with my chick?? HELP!!

I am so sorry for your loss. One of the hardest things to go through when rearing chickens or any animal is when no matter what you do to try and save them, it is out of our hands. We can't bring back what's already gone.

Recently, My sister brought home some hatching eggs from the hatchery she works at. Apparently, they had been thrown out and my sister heard them calling from the rubbish bin. She brought them home and we gave them heat so they could hatch. They all hatched, but over the next few days they kept dying no matter what we did to try and save them. It was hard to say goodnight to them each night knowing that it would probably be Their last. We ended up having two survivors out of the six chicks we tried to save.

Rearing chicks is hard. They are so fragile and sometimes there is no saving them. All you can do now is care for the chicks you have, focus your energy on them. I wish I could do more to help you. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your brood and would love to know how they all go.

Oh wow i am so sorry for your guys loss as well. even though i thought she might make it i prepared my self that next morning she might not be with us. i am just thinking now hopefully she was never in pain and died peacefully. in some ways i feel maybe if she was suffering we should have just put her down. but there is no way for us to see if she was in pain. and if we had put her down i would feel like i did not try to save her. these are the things you can try to prepare your self for but it is totally different when it actually happens. On a different note, my white leghorn is doing something quiet funny, i have seen her do this twice, she get's up and starts running backwards, like she is trying to run over the other chicks lol. i went to put her on this little photoshoot area and i put here down on the floor and she started running around backwards hahaha. any clue on why she is doing this??

One of the hardest parts of loosing a pet is dwelling on what you should have or shouldn't have done. You did what you thought was right for her and that's what counts.

About your leghorn, I don't really know why she'd be doing it, I've seen my quail do this once before. I didn't conclude anything. If she keeps doing it and you are at all concerned, you could post another thread and get some advice. Or it could just be a one off. I'm not really sure.

If you do need any other advice, I'm happy to help. I won't be able to answer every question and I am new to this forum, but I have had quite a bit of experience with chickens and will help wherever I can. Hope this is helpful.

yes very helpful, thank you

I also have a question, I took fertile eggs from my one buff braham, she was not interested. I hatched them out in my bator. Have 7 that hatched. Once they were ready to come out of the bator I put them in the heated brooder in the Brahma house. Next morning all were thriving except one. Baby kept falling over not being able to get up acting very weak so I brought that one who also happens to be the smallest inside my house. Within hours the baby was acting normal. ( Loves to be picked up and cuddled, hates to be put down it screams bloody murder. Anyway since the baby was normal I put it back out in the brooder and when I went to check on shim ( Don't know if it is a boy or girl ) it was back to not being able to stand and acting very weak. I brought it back inside and low and behold it recovered. Again being cuddled and loved and when put down screaming. You would not think something that small could be so loud. The baby spent the night again and in the morning I put it back out with the rest again. When I checked on him this morning he was not doing well at all Not able to stand or hold it self up not making any noise. So I brought it inside and it seems to be getting better now. My question, DO CHICKENS FAKE BEING ILL? BECAUSE THIS ONE SURE RECOVERS QUICKLY ONCE INSIDE! HAS ANYONE ELSE EVER GONE THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

Perhaps being the smallest it can't thrive with the competition. I have had chicks respond very quickly to heat after shutting down from being too cold. Perhaps your chick was not getting enough heat because of competition with the other chicks and being inside and kept warm helped it recover so quickly.
