what is wrong with people-----selling puppies....

All of our animals we got for free, except for our chickens, some fish, hermit crabs, and a little maltapoo named Emma. Sara, our 13 yr old black lab, is wonderful! She is good with kids, always looked out for me when I was little, and is a all around good dog. Emma is a bit of a disappointment. There are tons of wonderful pets out there that were accidental & are free. When I get older, I will get a lab of my own. I will either get it from a shelter as a puppy, or get it for free.

Why spend hundreds of dollars for a dog when you can get one that is just as good for free?

I was thinking of something completely different. I know people do rescues from other countries, but the way it was brought up and the way it was talked about in the linked articles made it sound like there were these black market deals going on, illegally smuggling hundreds of dogs over borders for profit or something. I didn't even put two and two together haha

I spent money on a Golden Retriever pup from a good breeder because I have 2 small children, and a breed with low potential for aggression and high potential for sociability was of utmost importance to me.

Could a "mutt" with unknown genetics have worked out? Yep, quite possibly... I had some GREAT mutts growing up!!

Is there a 100% GUARANTEE that this pup will not have aggression or dominance issues? Nope, of course not...

*BUT* I definitely wanted to tip the odds in my favor, and I paid money to do it. Was/is worth it to me.

And the reputable breeder that I went to absolutely WILL take the dog back if for ANY reason he is not working out. It's in the contract. Altho he is a SWEETIE, so this is his "forever home" for sure...

NOTE: My 4 yr old daughter was badly bitten/mauled in a truly unprovoked dog attack a year ago, it was horrific. This is a factor that obviously makes me a bit hypersensitive to aggression issues... which is another reason why I was willing to "pay", plus needed to meet the parents, look at the dog's "family history", etc., etc.!! We all have our reasons, and what is the right decision for one person may be dead wrong for another.
