So I had a Silkie chick hatch out with really weird feathering that I've never seen before. It's both naked and... hairy? Instead of fluff it has all these wirey-feeling long feathers.
The chick is pure Silkie, Splash x Splash so no hard feather or lavender shredder genes, and comes from a proven breeding pen I've hatched at least 150 chicks from. Three other chicks from this hatch from the same parent combo are completely normal.
The chick is otherwise bright and healthy, just really strange looking. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
