What is your chickens' favorite treat?

I was out in our yard yesterday and picked some green weeds that are growing (it's been very mild here lately) to give to my chickens since there is nothing green growing in their run. Y'all should have heard them as they literally started devouring those weeds... my roo was making a noise that I've never heard before. It was almost like he was purring with delight.

Right now (at -15 degrees) their favorite treat is a bowl of warm oatmeal with grapes.

Stand back, or risk losing an appendage when you put the bowl down in front of them.

BRead...bread...bread....They didn't seem to care for it much in warmer weather and wanted fruit...fruit...fruit.

Now that it's cold they will jump 3 feet into the air to grab it before we can break it off and throw it to them.

They get plenty of scratch everyday along with their regular layer...I don't know what it is about the bread...

Whatever I present them with in the morning, they keep their beady eyes on me for what I'm doing, just in case I will magically conjure up something they like even BETTER. This morning it was cooked carrot peels and a slice of watermelon from a grocery store reject rack. They still followed me around hoping for sunflower seeds. Such appetites.

As long as it is in a white icing bucket (the kind I can get for free at work), they don't care what it is, they'll eat it! Their favorite treat of all time is being let out to free range and to stand in front of me so I can't walk without picking up at least three of them...

My chickens have gotten nearly everything we eat here. My ducks are out free ranging by the light of our night light right now (at 8:25 pm). Crickets are a fun one, as are mealworms. Leftover rabbit is good for them too, lots of protein. My chickens will steal and devour any food that comes outside. I have to lock them up when it's time to bring groceries inside!

I thought now would be a good time to revive this old thread since there are a lot of new chicken parents on the board. And because I gave my 5 & 6 week old chicks their first taste of spaghetti (yesterday) and Kraft mac & cheese (today) -- took them awhile to figure out that I was putting yummy stuff to eat, and not a dangerous threat, in their tractor.

my chickens love just about anything, and my kids love giving it to them, they eat anythign from left over fruit (well maybe not left over if it is from the kids, lol) anything green (lettuce, broccolli, etc) leftovers in general, heck they are usually excited to see me round the corner (even if I am not carrying anything out to them, they still come a running) my babies just like to EAT!!!!
