What is your definition of "needs" and "wants"

Eat only pretzels and drink water and you lose a lot of weight. Or at least I did. Maybe I should do it again.

Just gotta get the motivation to quit eating yummy chinese food, pasta, and tacos.

I sure know I don't want to give those up.

I NEED a mini-madeleine pan, if I'm going to make mini corn madeleines.

Of course if you don't WANT mini corn madeleines...., then I still WANT a mini-madeleine pan.

Needs to me: food (including the ability to grow your own, kill your own food), water, shelter, clothing (I'm not wanderin' around nekkid), shoes. (we live in a very wooded area, lot's of pokey's and my feet are tender - so yup, it's a need) My DH is a need to get to work in his vehicle, not a "need" for me. Jobs aren't exactly plentiful at the moment.

Wants: everything else.

whatever I want is a need as far as I am concerned.

Cell phone, internet, cute earrings to wear to work, fuel efficient car, weekend trips, thai food delivery.

All needs.

When it comes down to it, if we have a Depression, many people will find out what they actually need to survive. Many communities will learn to rely on each other, probably coming down to batering and trading to get what you need. Basic needs are food, clothing, and shelter. People will buy or trade locally, staying within thier area to get the basics. Transportation will be driven down to a minumum. When my grandmother went thru the Depression, the family only went into town once a month to buy basic necessities and grew many of the vegetables they liked at home. Things like sugar and flour were rationed to only being used for baking bread, canning< making jams or jellies> and/ or when company came. Grandma darned sox and underwear, and used a washboard to wash the clothes. People today will have a hard time doing without things they take for granted. Thats probably why there is such a movement for learning things our grandparents took for granted.
