Hmm... having kept just about every type of chicken imaginable, I would have to say that Orps are my favorites overall (any color). They just have all the attributes that I personally consider important in a chicken. They are followed closely by SL and BLR Wyandottes, Ameraucanas, Cochins, EE's, Barnevelders, Salmon Faverolles, and the elusive good quality Langshans.

I like several others for different reasons. For example, I also like Marans and Welsummers. They are just not my top picks for appearance and personality. I like Silkies too, IF they are good quality, predominately because they are interesting and we use them as broodies. My husband's favorite is Barred Rocks. The other favorite of most of my family that I personally don't care for are OE.

Snort. Anything but Leghorns. Leghorns are born divas and are too excitable for my tastes - as a kid I raised Leghorn cockerels in the backyard for broilers.

Um, Old English Game bantams are super tiny, cute, and very friendly!

Partridge Rocks are nice and pretty as well!

Japanese bantams are so adorable with their short little legs and tail standing up tall! They're so cute!
