What is your most clever coop/run idea?

i got sheet vinyl flooring for all the horizontal surfaces, makes cleaning up so much easier

and scored, the guy just gave it to me!

one thing that i did have to change pretty quick was the distance of the roof from the wall, it was too close and they just didn't like it

Here are my two favorite "helpers"

For grit and oyster shell

and

nests are easy to clean and move (the box on the right has my broody girl in it - the other girls just get right in with her - do their business and leave... LOL

Oh my goodness I love your nests. If I ever have to do it again I'll remember that!

Sunny California my fil has dozens of spools at his place down the road. I've always wondered what they could be used for instead of rotting in a pile. I am very excited to use them for water and feed.

Thank you everyone.

I just put a small 'salad bar' in the run today made of scrap 2x10's (it's only about 3'x6'), and I'm planting looseleaf lettuce varieties and spinach for now. But check out this page by BYCer Arianna in NC. It is absolutely amazing! And has more salad bar then a Golden Corral!

It took my 15 ladies little more than 2 weeks to almost totally denude the former 10'X24' dog run of all grass, so once the coop is finished and the temp coop out of the run, I plan to add a lot more 'salad bar'...

Enjoy!

I BOUGHT automatic chicken doors, which work on batteries (not electrical power run to the coop) and open and close with sunrise and sunset, on a light sensor. Pricey, but welllll worth it. I can sleep in, and during the winter months when I go to work and come home after work in the dark, I know the chickens have been secured. (Of course, I do a nightly head count just to make sure.)

Had one coop built up on posts about 2 feet off the ground for shade and shelter from the rain.

I'm with gryeyes -- we have an automatic pop door that is the best thing since sliced bread. Ours is on a timer (we do have electricity). My next favorite thing is the dog kennel that we were going to give away until we realized it would make a GREAT run. It is sturdy and we covered about 2/3 of it so the girls can be outside when it rains. And since we live in the Pacific Northwest, it rains. A lot.
