What is your plan when tornado is happening???

Are you my long lost twin? Neighbor who has known me since I was 10, stopped and asked why chickens? ANYONE can be the crazy cat lady!
Mine also come running to me, I have a large dog crate set up in the basement, 'just in case' . We have outside stairs to our basement, and they have actually come through the kitty door. They will not get a very long chance, but I tend to batten my hatches early, on the 'better safe than sorry' side. I tell my siblings we are having 'drills'.

Luckly we don't have tornados here very often but there are some places where the wind moves buildings and trys to flip them off the foundations. I've seen many cabins and buildings with 3 or more steel cables strung up the exterior of the roof, over the ridge pole, thru holes in the eaves and anchored into the ground. It works as I spent a week in a cabin that you could watch the wind hit the ends and tug at the cables, shaking it bad! If the cables weren't there we would have been laying on the front wall to sleep and trapped inside!

if there really is a tornado in the air, just open the coop door and let them out of the coop and let them tend for themselves. they will find a place to get!
