What kills brown recluse spiders?

i would seriously consult an extermanator if you have a infestation of them. They are nasty lil things and come out at night. They say, turn the light on and wait a minute before going into an attic. I say, screw the light i aint going in no attic

We had to use foggers and control their habitat when we lived in TN. They loved the wood stack next to the shop.

I believe diatomaceous earth (DE) can be used around a spider's habitat to kill them. Food grade DE is non-toxic to humans and their pets.

We don't even bother. We just sweep up the volunteers from the bathtub (kind of like hanging around the drain) and go on about our business. There is no way to kill them all.

Just some info:

In its native range, the brown recluse is a very common house spider. A colleague in Missouri found 5 in a child's bedroom one night, a person in Arkansas found 6 living under his box spring in his bedroom, during a cleanup at the Univ. of Arkansas, 52 were found in a science lab that was being used everyday, a colleague found 9 living under one piece of plywood in Oklahoma, a grad student and I collected 40 of them in a Missouri barn in 75 minutes, and would have collected more, but we ran out of vials to house them. One amazing story is an 8th grade teacher in Oklahoma checking up on his students avidly collecting material by some loose bricks around a flagpole on an insect collecting trip. In about 7 minutes, 8 students collected 60 brown recluses, picking them all up with their fingers and not one kid suffered a bite. An even more amazing story is that of a woman in Lenexa, Kansas who collected 2,055 brown recluse spiders in 6 months in 1850s-built home. 3- even if you have a recluse, bites from them are extremely rare, despite all the stories. Many of the really graphic nasty wounds you see on the internet as recluse bites can also be other conditions like necrotizing bacteria and pyoderma gangrenosum. Ninety percent of brown recluse bites are not medically significant, heal very nicely often without medical. intervention and treatment for most brown recluse bites is simple first aid (RICE therapy - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). We have these too. We have tons of spiders. Ones that look as big as tarantulas...I hate spiders. I just mush them as we see them. I have had no luck with any spider products and even the exterminator lady told me they are almost impossible to rid of.

My DH was bitten last year (not by a brown recluse) and his head started swelling up and he had to go get 3 different meds. Thankfully we haven't been bitten by a recluse yet, although I have found 4 of them on my BED in the past year!

I know a bug guy told me that if you put them in the corners of your house in each room, and you have more than 3-5 I think on each one, then you have an infectation. oh god i m gonna have nightmares!!!!!
i was gonna say shoe... but

um... there is a RAID spray for ANTS that kills spiders, big spiders even, real quick. it is in a BLACK canister... unless thats for wasps, then its the RED one, but whatever, its for ants... we are infested here with spiders too. hugantic ones.... i dont go outside at night if i can help it.....

You don't need Raid. WD40 or common cleaning agents like 409 are just as deadly. But I think I would bomb that attic and start leaving the sticky traps atround the rest of the house, where pets can't reach them.
