I hope y'all can help. I have a 11 week old pullet that was a school hatch. For the life of me, I can't figure out what breed it is. As a chick, it was all black, with just the tiniest spot of white just under is beak, and a white bum. Now, it is all black with no white anywhere. It has black feet, black comb, and black beak, but skin is pinkish white and earlobes are pink. It has a flat comb (not sure if pea, or rose, or walnut). I had a male chick as well and it looked exactly the same as the female as chick, but as his comb and waddles grew, there was less black in them. Its feathers now have a beautiful greenish hue to them in the sun. I also have an Austerlorp, and they look nothing alike. I've researched just about every black chicken there is but none match what mine looked like as chicks.

Possibly an Asian black??
I looked at pictures, the chicks have to much white on them still and she doesn't have any white feathers on her neck. I can't imagine someone would gift a 1st grade class a rare breed chicken. But thanks for the suggestion.

I don't think Asian Black because she has a rose comb. Looks like a Crossbreed to me, School hatches usually are
I wouldn't count on it being a cross-breed. I work in a public school system, and all of our eggs have come from certified hatcheries (for health reasons, I guess) so they've all been purebreds. Some have been some pretty neat little birds - like white crested polish and a few other oddballs. It just depends on what the hatchery has extra of, that week. So don't totally count out a rare or unusual breed. Your eggs may have been hatchery quality purebreds, but purebred, just the same. Keep on looking!
