What kind of clothes/shoe do you wear when you're in the coop and run?

This is why I love this site. There's always someone with similar concerns, ideas, etc...

kuntrychick - my family laughed at me, but I decided I needed some coveralls. I don't like changing from regular clothes to gardening clothes and back again all the time. I also didn't want to worry about the chickens pooping on my clothes if I picked them up.

So I ordered some coveralls, and hung them on a hook in the garage, next to my slip-on gardening shoes (don't know the name of them - got them from Farm & Fleet. Not crocs, but they're great.) I can just slip on the coveralls and shoes whenever I go out to see to the chicks.

Then, again, I am a city girl, and a bit fastidious.

And, yes, I wear playtex gloves when I clean the coop.

Slightly off topic, but if you don't want to douse yourself in Off or Deet, you can ward off chiggers by keeping some agricultural sulpher (just the yellow powder) in an old sock by the door. Before you go out in the yard, use the old sock to powder your feet, ankles and lower legs. Works like a charm.

Luckily no chiggers here in Oregon, but I grew up in North Texas...
