What kind of container do you use for grit?

I just toss some granite grit out on the ground on occasion with the daily scratch grains.
Use this for shells:

My soil is yellow sand so I don't need grit.
Pocket Gophers continually push up little mounds of fresh sand and the birds like to take it from there.
Sand isn't large enough to serve as grit in adult chickens. #3 adult grit is about 5/16" diameter. That is large enough to lodge in the gizzard of chickens over 7 weeks of age until the acidic environment and constant grinding breaks it down enough to pass. Sand passes right through.
