what kind of demon bird is this

Yup, I've watched mockingbirds attack everybody for years. I see them on the posts around my chicken yard. Wonder if that's why the local hawk doesn't usually come too close....

Just because you can't see a nest doesn't mean it isn't there. It could even be watching out for a fledgling. It's the cats' job to learn where it's safe to wander. For outdoor cats, mockingbirds are the least of their worries.

mockingbird, without a doubt. They are highly territorial and will swoop down and attack anything they perceive as a threat in "their" territory. They LOVE grapes, so if you have a grapevine nearby they will defend their food source, also.

the stupid thing follows my cats around to attack them i mean they go down in the feild its there next door at my grandmothers its there here at the house it here no matter where they go it theres

It is a mockingbird. In Spanish it is chonte. When I was a kid the Mexican ladies would love you forever if you gave them a chonte. They sing and sing. They also imitate simple tunes.

It is illegal to keep them as pets, but people do it.

and sirens...and telephones...and cats...and etc., etc., etc. They're very good mimics! I've spent far too much time looking for the "kitty" I kept hearing until I finally realized it was coming from the wise-guy mockingbird! For years we had one (not as a pet; as a local wild bird) that would mimic a patrol car siren. Had it down pat, too!

They're beneficial in that they eat lots of insects, but can be stinkers to cats. Your cats will learn to deal with it, and it may eventually learn that they're not threats. They are protected as a native songbird species, so it would be wise NOT to do anything to harm it.
