What kind of dog do you have?

I'm sorry you had to put Balto down but he is pain free now. It hurts to have to let them go though. Did you name him after the Movie Balto?? My daughter's favourite movie was Balto. I know that mutt dogs are great, we have had a few of them. We now have a beagle from a shelter and a rotti. Great dogs. Remember each breed has it's pros and cons. their little quirks that you have to deal with.
All the best to you!

Dear Carole AM,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Even when we know it's the right decision, it is still hard to let them go because we know how much we will miss them. I've had to have one of my horses and one of our cats put down in the last year, and I know there's not much more time before it will be time to make that decision for our old Lab (she's 15, at least), so I kind of know what you're experiencing. Remembering all the good times you had with him will be painful for a while, but eventually they will bring a smile to you rather than tears. Sending hugs to you,
Liz

Sorry for the loss of your friend, but there is no need to wait....he would want you to get another dog ASAP.
There are so many in need of homes........

This is Miracle, He was the last one born alive. He was stuck in Star and I couldn't get him out and my husband did but he pulled the tip of his tail off and Miracle came out Gasping for air but my husband was a EMT for a company he worked for and knew what to do. I called the pup Miracle since it was that he was able to live he was in his mama for a long time so much so I figured he was gone.

Wow, all the dogs are beautiful!
We sure miss having a pet in the house--it IS hard.

Now we are thinking of a pup....but the big question is: What Kind?

I like LGDs, DD likes big & hairy, but DH doesn't like "pug-nosed bully breeds".

We want something that will be good with our other animals (cats, poultry & horses). DH doesn't want "something that weighs more than he does." I told him I'll get him a tiny teacup dog, and we can have a big dog outside!

Here is the list of rescue groups in your state.
As the Director of West GA Pet Rescue I have placed 100's of dogs into new loving homes.
For some dogs I do require a fence.....and for some I do not.
The main concern is your Leash Law in your Area and how rural your area is.
I was raised with our dogs roaming free, but it came at a price......some would just disappear........I have a huge fenced yard........and 12 of my 13 stay in it.
I have one dog that I took in as an adult. She is miserable in a fence....so because she is over all well behaved she roams free......except when I let my chickens out, then she is in the barn.

I do not recommend a terrier with chickens........Some type of shepard would be good, but it needs to be introduced as a pup.

My shepard husky mix is great around the chickens, but my yorkie/dachshund mix would love to sink her teeth into them.....
I know you are sad over the loss of you friend.....I love old dogs........They are the best,
but you have another friend in your future and I wish you the best!

The smallest dachie is Remington Steele, the larger doxie is a mix, Zoe, and finally the Bichon Frise is Gracie. One of her finest moments, she just go groomed yesterday. It won't last much longer.
