What kind of dog do you have?

The last pic was in June. I still have grass though... I use my well water to water my yard. It still looks pretty darn good. We got a good rain last night and it's thundering right now! Woo Hoo!!

Maybe a Basset Hound would be good.
They are sweet loving dogs..........Large, but short legs and a short coat, seasonal shedders.
Just all around adorable. My brother in law has one and he is so sweet.
Of course as with any dog it would require training.........

the best dog i ever had,
was a dachshund/australian cattle dog.
or the best i can figure.
he wandered in,
& i loved that dog more than anything.
he was short & wire-haired like a dachshund,
but blue merle like a cattle dog.
he was adorable.
& at first, he wasnt good with the chickens,
but once he learned they were pets,
he started taking care of them.

thenn,
someone took him back to his orginal owner.
i still see him every now & then, lol.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Balto looked like such a beautiful boy. It's never easy...

I have fourteen (!!!) Siberian Huskies. I've been in that breed for over 20 years. I have show dogs, an obedience titleist, but most are from sled dog lines. I race competitive sled dog teams (my true passion).

During the warmer months I own an all-breed boarding kennel, so I get to interact with a variety of wonderful dogs - purebreds and the "all-americans"! It seems that the "next" breed I get is changing constantly, depending on who is in my kennel at any given time. All dogs are great!

One of the breeds that is consistantly sweet tempered is the Bernese Mountain Dog. They are a large dog that require a bit of grooming, but they're silly and happy and sweet. The down side of the breed is that they are prone to certain types of cancers and their life span is only about 8-9 years.
Another of my favorites is the PEMBROKE Welch Corgi. They're a tough little dog that do best in homes where they have a job. Being a herding breed, I don't know how they'll do with chickens!
Another is the Pomeranian. They are sweet and lively, but also require regular grooming.
The Keeshund is another good dog. I've never met a mean one. They "smile" by showing all their teeth and some people are afraid of them because they look like they're showing their teeth!!! They're really nice dogs, though.

Wow... I'd better stop now. Can you tell I love my job???

Good luck with your choice!

Might I suggest an Australian Shepherd? We have one and she's the best dog we've ever had. (That's out of 3: a golden retriever/German shepher mix, a black lab/husky mix, and her.) Just a suggestion. Hope you find one that's good!

I read your webpage.. Is the Cane Corso the kind of dog that will protect the chickens, love kids and kill the coons??

Absolutely gorgoeous dogs.. I love that square (thats what I call it) head look.. and I need Coco.. lol... soooo adorable...

Thanks Fluffy. I have no idea how they are with chickens yet. I have just started researching and looking for chickens. They are the best dogs I have ever had and easiest to train. Great with my family and friends and very protective.

They use is as a property ad livestock guardian.

I will be having a litter this winter if you are interested.
