What kind of dog do you have?

How about a Portuguese Water dog. Medium sized, loyal, can be protective so maybe you can train it to guard chickens! Good family dog. Loves water, does need activity but not like some breeds. Smart too.

Good luck and so sorry for your loss

We've had Golden Retrievers for 15 years. Our best girl died 2 1/2 yrs ago...she was Chelsea and she was the absolute best dog in the world. I loved that girl so much and cried for so long after she died. We also had her son and daughter Jack and Lacie...Jack died a a little over a yr ago...he was almost 10. Lacie is over 11 now and doing great.

We rescued a black lab mix (w/ Bernese Mt dog , a little Golden Retriever, Chow and Cattle Dog) after Jack died and he's a nut.

Lacie and Alex do chase the Roos we let freerange on our property. They've learned to fly=really fly like a bird! But Alex has a bark that has chased away a strange man on our property too, so I'll take his barking and sneaking garbage out of the trash can and almost anything else he does just so he keeps strangers away from our house. At least the bad ones!

I want to get a Great Pyr someday, and an Anatolian Shepherd or Akbash dog...beautiful dogs!

PS- sorry if these are too big-I don't know how to make them smaller...

I have an year old Chocolate lab who has been a great mother and friend. She is the smartest dog I have ever owned or known! She will do anything for a bellyrub! Her name is Cocoa. In the pic she is checking out the chicken pen (before we added the chicken wire)awaiting the new babies.
