Mine have a black pug...but she functions more like the mascot instead of security!
I sometimes sprinkle oatmeal on her back and let the chickens have a snack on the go...lol. They will follow Minka(the pug) all around the yard eating the oatmeal off her back. It's hilarious...who needs cable?

My labrador mix is VERY interested by the smells and foods that go into the chicken house. She doesn't really care about the chickens though. But she loves to hang out by their coop. So, that's good!

I have been doing small bits of free ranging and she'll lay out in front of the coop, which I'm assuming is helping keep predators away!

My birds have a cat who sleeps while the flock pecks his tail. Also a catahoula leopard dog and a blue heeler who run hawk patrol.

Our Australian shepherd dog is VERY bad with them and is tethered while they free range

My heart breaks every time I see a Pap....I had two darling dogs that I just loved - there are no words for how much I loved them. I do not have a picture of Jasper, my red and white (I'll scan one and upload him later), but here is my little tri. His name was "Stuff" and he was my dog-of-a-lifetime...he was full of happiness and goodness, and never had a bad day...never. He had his championship (then nuetered him), CGC, and was a therapy dog and volunteered his time at Shriner's Childrens' Hospital here in Tampa - I still have his tiny vest & working collar. I had both Jasper and Stuff for 16 years...they never live long enough, and always break your heart!

Cheers is currently taking notes on how to herd chickens in their three dimensional world with her 5 inch legs. She's not sure how it's going to down, but we saw one of her diagrams and it looked something like this:

Thanks! This is a great thread!

A very playful Great Pyrenees.

Important note:

If you give your dog cooked eggs as treats, don't let him see you making them.

If he watches you making eggs for his treats, don't let him wander around with access to the nest boxes.

If he sees you making eggs for his treats, and has access to the nest boxes, don't wonder why on earth the chickens suddenly seem to be only laying half as many eggs.
