What Kind of feed do you buy???

Mine "grew up", big beautiful and healthy by the way, on FRM feed from ACE hardware. Recently switched to layena for the big girls, they don't go through it very fast and I'm not sure yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing???

I started using Layena Crumbles... it's been a little over a month and the egg shells are nice and hard! I noticed the chickens don't go through it as fast either...
I also feed them raw spinach about 3 times a week and red grapes....

This is a great question !!!

I have been buying poultry grain for ever. However, the other feed is continually on the brand and type move.

I have bought egg layer crumbles and now I have switched to pellets.

I have bought game bird (26 percent protein) and now I am trying "hog finisher".

Oh, the girls still get their oyster shell, but I have been switching feed on the poor things for the last year.

I will always stick with the poultry grain, they just LOVE the morning throw down the middle of the barn.

They do not even go to the feed hanger that has the same thing, they wait for the throw. silly birds.

Of course, I ALWAYS keep fresh, clean and completely renewed water every day. I think this is the secret

to keeping birds healthy and hungry.

Red Hen Layer

I like it cause it has a mixed of pellets, corn, bits of shell, and wheat

also mix it with 2 parts RedHen feed and 1part of what I bought where I bought the chickens. They dont like it that much

also sprinkle shell grit in with the feed, and, when I'm not using the secondary feeder for feed, I fill it with shell grit.

Purina crumbles and then pellet for layers.They don't really like the pellets. I also toss them rolled oats and a bird seed mix with cracked corn.

I feed 17% Lonestar brand layer pellets along with half scratch and half whole corn for treats now that the temps have dropped some. In the warmer season I throw them a half scratch/ half whole oats mix for treats. I think the whole corn sticks with them better and gives more wamth throughout the cool nights.

For the babies I use the Lonestar 20% starter for about the first 6wks. then switch to 18% grower till around 18 to 20 wks. then to the laying mash from then on and have oyster-shell for free choice, they get plent of grit free ranging in the evening.

Plus all the goodies and scraps from the kitchen, dinner table and garden. NO meat though, I just don't fed it to chickens.
