I bought these birds in a local chicken swap this past May 2015. Of course they were sold as 3 pullets. Instead I am pretty positive 2 are Roos. The lady said they were Marans and me being new to chickens didn't know the difference. LYLE THEN @ 4 weeks
NOW 10 weeks
This bird a Roo, is flighty, screams is head off if he is handled. His head is very triangual, has pink feathered feet and beak. He is getting brown feathering in his neck, at the hackles at this point. Marans X Rhodebar???

MISO
THEN @ 4 weeks
Now at 10 weeks.
Yep another Roo, However, this bird is completely different then the other one. He is gentle and settles quickly when you handle.him. Barring on his feathers yellow feet and beak. I think I'll be keeping him.

Finally "Omlette" my only Pullet out of this deal.

Omlette @ 4 weeksat 7 weeks

Omlette now @ 10 weeks

No clue what she is... very calm and sweet bird.

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

Nice looking birds!

The top one certainly has some lavender or blue in its genetics. It certainly could be a Maran cross, though with what I'm not sure.

The second one looks like my Barred Rock cross, which I think either has some leghorn or Red Star in it. He's a similar shape and coloration.

Lastly, the hen looks like a Rhode Island Red mix of some kind.

Hope this helps!

the first bird looks like a Marans mix, with something barred but I think Rhodebar would have left more red leakage. Could have been a cuckoo Marans, something like that. I've had blue barred cockerels coming out my ears from my sex link breeding projects....

but I like the feathered legs and white skin on your boy.

Second is a barred Rock or Delaware mix. Hard to say mixed with what, that's a common color pattern to arrive at when you're playing with mixing breeds.

your pullet looks like a production Red or hatchery RIR.

You are welcome to take "crazy pants" Lyle ... I swear his head looked like doorstop before he got his comb. :) unfortunately you can not see in the pic but he is get red feathers on his head, neck and hackles. Pretty soon he is going to look like a crimson tide washed over him. The lady that sold them to me only has the better breeds Rhodebars, Dominiques, Flower hens, Marans, that kind of thing... no BSL, RSl, Leghorn As far as Omelette she is 1/3 the size of RSL and is the same age. Additionally, I will have to get a "good" pic of her when she stands pretty. I swear if she were smaller I'd think she was a Serama, with her pretty pose... Her back turns into a complete U. And her tail fans out ... quite pretty actually. And she doesn't schlep around the yard like BSLs I have. And unfortunately you can't see in the pic but all of her feathers have a blue black spot on the end.
