Hi! We got 3 of these Plymouths from Tractor Supply a couple weeks ago. The sign said it'd either be Barred or Partridge but then had a picture of a white hen on the sign, so I was really confused. Doesn't seem likely that they're Partridge, but although they're different shades of gray, they don't look Barred either. Has the Barred part just not grown in yet since they're only about 3-4 weeks old? Pictures I've seen usually look more striped by now though. In checking other types of Plymouths, the closest one I could find is I think Blue Plymouth Rock? But those pictures were really limited. If anyone has ideas, I'd appreciate the input! Thanks!

It is blue. There is a blue variety of Plymouth Rocks but they are rare and you wouldn't have one without searching them out. Certainly wouldn't pick one up from a feed store.
There are many hatcheries selling a copy cat of the sapphire gems and labeling them blue Plymouth Rocks or Plymouth blue Rocks. They're just a blue sex linked hybrids.
I'd highly suspect that is what your chick is.

This was what I was thinking! I thought Blue Plymouths were more rare, so I didn't know why Tractor Supply would just have them, these were the last three they had, too. But Blue Sex-Linked makes sense. You think it's definitely a hybrid though?

Yes I do. It's a lot easier to make sex links with two different breeds.
I'm sure the hen side is barred rocks but the male side would need to be splash.
They could use a splash PR but I seriously doubt they did since there's other breeds more readily available. A couple years ago many were using splash Andalusians.

I have 3 plymouth Rocks and one looks like this too! I was wondering why it looked so different. I wonder? This is mine. Wonder if this is a blue?
