Yes, why would you just kill it? Snakes are great for controlling rats and mice. Personally, I'd rather have a snake around any day, then a rat.

Oh, also, there are a bunch of snakes that look very similar to copperheads. We just researched the same thing last summer, cause I found what I thought was a baby one in our walkout. In our case I think it was a water snake...don't know if you have those there. Copperheads are pretty aggressive, and that is one you probably wouldn't want around. But we never kill anything til we know for sure, then still try to relocate it if we can.

Looks like a corn snake to me, too. I wouldn't have thought a snake -other than a boa- would bother with chicken.
