what kinds of geese?

Quote:
Those geese are really nice? Or are they nice to you and your family? I think that's the kind that my friend's dad had, and it was mean as a snake! It might not have been that same kind, but it was a drake that didn't have a dewlap (sp?) and no horn thingy on it's nose, so I am guessing that is what it was. We would have to carry a stick to go out to the car, and have to walk backwards to keep an eye on the silly thing! I would so have loved to try out my backswing on that darned bird!

We have Toulouse and White Embdens now and we really enjoy them. The Toulouse are the most friendly they Embdens are more standoff-ish.

We had African's in the past and they were super friendly but also super loud, they honked and honked and honked some more.

We have never had a mean goose, alot of people are scared of them but like any other bird it's all in how you raise them.

My Africans are great around my kids (they are loud, though we don't mind), but my pilgrim gander has always been bad. I am trying to teach him, but he is still very aggressive. I have debated getting rid of my pair of pilgrims. Anyone on here live near Shreveport or Texarkana and want to trade? I have raised them from 1 day-old this spring, and they pen up great every night, but boy I get tired of him making my kids cry, DD2, DD6, and DD8. It doesn't seem as frequent now, so maybe they are learning, but if it hasn't stopped by Christmas we may be having Christmas goose for dinner!

My geese are not good w/chickens or ducks, I think its because the two "mama" are still protective of their nearly 6 month old "babies" and now the "babies" are following what their surrogate mothers have done. I've got two 7 yr old girls, an Embden and a Toulouse with the four 5 1/2 month old American Buffs.

I bought some Sebs from Holderread's last year and spent the extra money for the show quality goslings. They were a big disappointment. Even more disappointing was they didnt stand behind them--at all. I had to sell most of those birds and go back to my original breeding stock. I have heard from a prominent show judge that their quality in Sebs has really declined. If I were you and were looking for really nice birds, I would go to some shows and ask the people showing them if you could buy a gosling or two.

That is what I am doing! Hope that helps,
