What kinds of life lessons have your chickens taught you?

I learn all kinds of things from my chickens.
Probably the most importaunt thing they teach me is life and death. Although not just my chickens teach me this, they are definatly a big part of it. When i was younger each time we would be missing a bird i would just cry and cry but now that i am older, i still get sad and wish they where still here but i also remember that another animal probably is supporting their own family with that meal. (that doesnt mean i want foxes and such wondering around my chickens though..) But because chickens are somewhat at the bottom of the food chain they attrack all sorts of different animals and it just amazes me how animals act and such around one another.

These are really great lessons. I try to explain to people that having chickens is about so much more than just "having chickens". My kids have learned about family, life, death, and even that eggs don't normally come from a cardboard box at the grocery store.

Some great insights we have here.

I've learned a lot from my chickens!

- It doesn't matter how small you are or what you look like, your place in the world is determined by your attitude.
- They've taught me a lot about the circle of life. Coping with loss, and celebrating new life.
- It's good to spend at least a little time outside every day, even if it's rainy and cold out.
- Stick with those you know and like, but take the time to get to know new individuals, too.
- Live life with gusto!
- Take the time to sunbathe and enjoy your surroundings. It will improve the quality of your life.
- Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

Other things as well, I'm certain, but I'll have to think about it some more.

Snuggling up next to good friends is comforting. Plus, it helps keep you warmer.

Don't be too afraid to try new foods - you might find out they're your new favorite snack!

Sometimes, guys try to talk you into things with gifts of dubious value. It is best to check things out warily, than run willy-nilly over into a compromised position. There's nothing wrong with running away and making a lot of noise. Just make sure to watch where you're going!
