What kinds of life lessons have your chickens taught you?

The mixed look of fear and/or astonishment on people's face when you show them your huge, fierce-looking rooster, when they've never seen a chicken before in their life...priceless.

"Spend a little time outside every day, even if its rainy and cold" (as another poster said)

and

"Pay close attention to your surroundings"

and

"Relish the good things in life; snort and honk your approval"

Don't wear bright red painted toenails out to the chicken coop - they immediately start pecking.

Chickens have taught me that I actually feel good about being inconvenienced and harried to make them happier. Today's cold spell had me out there doing everything in my power to try to make them feel better. While I can't say they're happy, they're at least tolerating things better.
