What lights do you use?

I'm currently raising over 50 chicks under one red 125 watt heat lamp. They are out in the coop and this single lamp provided plenty of heat. I agree, the red 250 watt lamp are a lot easier to find. I ordered the 125 watt lamp online because it was not available locally.

I don't think the red lamps are too hot. You can regulate the heat on the chicks/bedding by the height of the lamp. If you only have a 250 watt lamp to work with, just hang it up higher.

I'm believe the regular white heat lamps are too bright for the chicks and cause undue stress with might result in aggressive behavior among the birds. And just as someone mentioned, it might it difficult for the chicks to fine the needed rest at night with 250 white watts staring at them 24/7.
