What makes 11 month old laying chicken go black

This does sound like blackhead. I would contact a vet. This is a disease. I have no experience but the bird should be removed from the flock immediately. I hate to say it ... but I would seriously consider culling her. I do not think she will ever be the same again. Vaccinate your other birds right away! And clean your coop, waterers and feeders.

Please help Hi

Welcome To BYC

@Debbie Susan can you give us more information?

Can you post some photos?

When you say she has gone black - what do you mean - is it the eyes, wattles, comb?

How old is she?
What type of food/treats do you feed?
Has she been vaccinated for Marek's?
Do the eyes have any crust, discharge, pus, etc.?
Are there any scabs/lesions on the comb, face, wattles?
What other symptoms does she have - is she lethargic, laying down, losing balance, going off feed, etc.?

If you think she has suddenly gone blind - for whatever reason - separate her from the flock so you can take care of her. Make sure she is staying hydrated - if need be, syringe or tube fluids into her.

Once we have more information, we can hopefully give better input.

She meant blind, I think, and histomoniasis is rare in chickens.
