What makes a bird “heritage”?

So, I’m confused on what makes a chicken a heritage bird. Anyone want to explain this to me?

Thank you. So, a heritage chicken would be purebred?
I don’t think so:
From my understanding it’s kinda your standard, dual-purpose, breeds that have been around for a while. “the birds your great grandma used to raise” like Dominiques and Orpingtons and Plymouth rocks

Oh, thank you for correcting me! Good to know! IDK very much about it, just what they taught me when I was in 4H.
