This mug was purchased this year in Frankenmuth, Michigan (because of my beekeeping journey). Another cool little town with BIG personality. My husband and I visit Frankenmuth for our anniversary every year because it's only about an hour away, but it's a nice little getaway.

Frankenmuth is referred to as "Michigan's Little Bavaria" because it was founded by a Bavarian pastor and German immigrants ("Franken" represents the province of Franconia and "muth" means courage). The small strip of "downtown" has kept to the Bavarian theme and Frankenmuth is now a well-known tourist attraction in Michigan.

The town is also Christmas OBSESSED. "The World's Largest Christmas Store" (Bronner's) is located in Frankenmuth. The building is 5.5 football fields (!) in size - filled with every kind of Christmas thing you could ever imagine (you WILL have a headache when you leave) and it sits on 27 acres of Christmas-themed land.

So, Frankenmuth is another cool place to visit in Michigan if you're looking for some really good German food, cute little shops, or anything that even remotely has to do with Christmas.

It's a beautiful morning here in SE Michigan: sunny and 58°F (a lovely departure from the sticky, humid nonsense of the past couple of weeks!)

I LOVE that mug . . . and I've actually been to Frankenmuth! It was a charming place. The whole family spent the day there, and when we stopped in a restaurant to eat it was the first time in my life I'd ever seen cottage cheese served with a meal. Of all things, that stands out in my memory the most. I don't understand how my memory prioritizes things sometimes.

I've lived in Michigan my entire life, but hadn't visited Traverse City until 2021, for a friend's wedding. Traverse City is most well-known for the Cherry Festival and the plethora of vinyards/wineries in the area - Mari Vineyard is owned by Marty Lagina, one of the brothers on the History Channel's docuseries "The Curse of Oak Island" (my husband was obsessed with the show - I thought it was ridiculous, lol). About 20 minutes from Traverse City, in Suttons Bay, is Ciccone Vineyard and Winery, which is owned by Madonna's family.

Anyway, TC is truly one of Michigan's most beautiful areas (close to Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and right on GrandTraverse Bay). If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it!

I love the mug and the little history about where it came from. It sounds like a nice place to visit in Michigan. The photo of the Bay is beautiful! How is the water there? Cold, I imagine!

I just witnessed a young bobcat make an unsuccessful attack on one of my chickens right after a hawk swooped down only to be stymied by one of my dogs, so it's been a morning!

Today's mug I got when I visited Fort Concho while staying at San Angelo state park.

We got lucky and happened to be there during some sort of celebration, so we got to watch canons being shot and other fun things. I love historical sites like that. Any whiff of early American life has me bouncing around like an excited little kid - I'd rather go to a living history site than a fancy restaurant or amusement park any day of the week!
The other big draw of San Angelo state park - besides a love of camping in general - was dinosaur footprints! Dinosaur remains have the same draw for me that alligators do, and I will clamber to camp anywhere that boasts either.

Good morning, muggers! (Lol)

My mug this morning was an Xmas gift from my cousin. Yes, I have become THAT person in my family who is easy to buy a gift for because one only need get something chicken or bee related (because I also started beekeeping this year) . I am the family Chicken Lady, "Giver of Eggs and Honey" and woman running out of places to put chicken and bee knick-knacks!

Oh, neat thread! I love mugs, and I'm not fully sure why. Most of mine come from Texas State Parks. I was always sad when the park store didn't have mugs, or if they only carried metal or plastic ones. Today's mug is from one of my favorite parks; I can't resist alligators.

Awesome Alligator mug! I didn't know they'd be in Texas, too. I never thought of getting a mug from a state park but, NOW I'll make it a point! And I'm not a fan of the tin mugs or plastic mugs (unless it's a Starbucks to-go cup).

My mug today isn't from a state park, but somewhere just as cool. The Mammoth National Monument is a dig site that unearthed a ton of Texas mammoths, as well as other ancient animals such as a giant tortoise, a saber toothed cat, and a North American camel. The tour was chock full of interesting tidbits, such as the fact that during the ice age Texas was on average only about ten degrees cooler than it is in modern years, and that the Texas mammoths were distinct from wooly mammoths. In fact, Texas mammoths were, like all things in Texas, bigger. It's really worth checking out if you're around Waco.

It's simple but really cute I love the honeycomb design and the bee on the handle.

Historical sites are so fascinating and it's fun when you can walk around. the reenactments are pretty cool to watch.
I went to Virginia 10 years ago, and we visited a place that I wish I remembered what it was called but,it was like a historical place where the employees were dressed in old American clothing, and there were some going about the place acting as if they were in those times. Love stuff like that, too! So much better than going to a movie or an amusement park.

That's so funny! They do have some different food traditions. I love the späetzle that's served with many of the dinner entrées!

It is truly wild! They have ornaments for every single hobby, career, animal, movie, t.v. show, sports team, university, color, glass, wood, ceramic, ....there's an entire wing of the store completely devoted to ornaments that can be personalized while you wait. I've never seen anything like it. I did have to pop 2 Advil the way out - it's so overwhelming!
