What Mug Are You Using Today?

Howdy busy bees!

My husband and I love mead and meaderies. There are several nice meaderies in Texas, and often we'd pack up some board games and our dog and head out to one of the meaderies for a date day of playing games, tasting honey, and drinking mead - and occasionally buying a mug!

I believe I got this mug from Rohan Meadery out in La Grange. Of course, we always sang that ZZ Top song on the way out there. Rohan was one of our favorite meaderies, and I always enjoyed wandering around and occasionally having one of their sheep or chickens come up to greet me. We always tried to attend the Texas Mead Festival, and the year it was held at Rohan was my favorite year. You would be surprised how many meaderies are in Texas and how differently all their heads taste, and the Mead fest is a great way to sample what Texas has to offer.
Some of my favorites:
From Rohan Meadery: Pear and Lavender mead. This mead is actually what made me realize lavender is one of my favorite flavors on the planet. I often add lavender powder to my coffee these days.
From Dancing Bee Winery in Rogers, Texas: they had a coffee mead that was to die for, so smooth and, er, coffee-y. When we moved out of Texas I hadn't seen it on their menu in a while, though, and I haven't tasted a truly outstanding coffee mead since.
From Wildflyer Mead Company in Navasota, TX: Hot and Bothered, which is a delicious spicy Mead made with Jalapeños.
But my favorite mead I ever tried was a Loganberry Mead I tried at Mead fest, and I've completely forgotten which meadery it came out of!

As much as I enjoy an occasional glass of mead, though, I'll take a nice mug of coffee over it any day of the week.

Whew, I hope everyone had a good morning today. I never got a chance to sit down with coffee; I spent all morning searching for one of my dogs who managed to escape. But I did technically use a mug today. It's the mug I use to hold the brushes for cleaning out my hummingbird feeders.

Like yesterday's mug this one comes from a meadery: my absolute favorite meadery, Wildflyer Mead Company. I've been heading out to their place since before the Mead Company existed, when it was simply BeeWeaver Honey Farm. The events they held out there were always educational and great fun. My mother told me that when I was a toddler I had a babysitter whose husband had an apiary. Mom said when she'd go to pick me up, I'd often be sitting with the sitter amongst the hives, sucking on honeycomb as the bees buzzed around me. I have absolutely no memory of any of this, but I like to think it set me on my lifelong path of loving bugs and insects, and it's possibly why I love honey products so much even though I lack any real sweet tooth. I don't often see bee themed mugs for sale at the places I visit, which is probably a good thing because I cannot resist purchasing them.

That's such a cool mug, thanks for sharing it.
