Okay friends. I've had chickens for about 4 years and I've seen eggs with no shells, thin shelled and oblong shaped eggs.
BUT I just found this in the nest box. What on God's earth is that??
Thanks friends. She is a 3 1/2 year old ISA Brown. She has not laid for months. She is a pet basically. I figured I would let her just live out her old age as long as she feels good and is able to hang with the flock
Your hen most likely has salpingitis or an inflammation of the oviduct, and lash egg material is a product of that infection. Sometimes the material is deposited into the abdomen, and may be found when the hen is butchered or a necropsy is performed. The thin-shelled or shell-less eggs in the past are likely, early signs of salpingitis. Here is a good article that describes all of this: https://the-chicken-chick.com/salpingitis-lash-eggs-in-backyard/
