what r u planting in your garden for your chickens?

I want to grow some kind of vine to crawl up the chickens fence so they can reach trough and munch. Any ideas on what would be a good one ?

I was thrilled to find out the chickens would love my wormy cabbages. I've left them in the ground, and hang them in the coop on a regular basis, will definitely plant more next year!. Anything that gets wormy, it's too good an excuse for not taking better care of the veggies. They didn't seem to thrilled with the leftover pumpkins, though

Ok, maybe a duh question. But, if by the time my garden starts growing, I have free rangers, will they ruin my garden. I would love for them to keep it nice and bug free and wouldn't mind if they snacked a little. But I don't want a bite out of every tomato I have, ya know.

I have a chicken wire fence around my garden so they don't destroy it.

I let them in there with me when I am weeding so I can keep an eye on them so they don't get to carried away. What I do like is that they eat grass hoppers that want to destroy my garden !!!!

I only let them in before planting and I want the wees eaten and they till it for me as well. Then after it is well established with no small tender starts to destroy.

You do not even realize how much you have made my day!! I love guineas ( I know, I'm weird) a dog recently killed the only one I had

. And I want to get some more, that is the only thing I have had free ranging except for a little game hen. Do guineas do good at staying away from predators? I had 6, 1 fully grown and 5 adolescents. The adolescents lasted about 3 days before they found the coyotes. The fully grown one was fine until the husky snuck up on her and attacked her fatally. She never went into a coop, she was out all the time and roosted in the oak tree beside my coop. Should I have a coop for them to go into at night, or will they all do like her if I get fully grown ones?

guineas do GREAT at staying away, and alarming all the other birds that theres something there,,, BUT,, are VERY noisy,, and will also let you know when someone pulls into the drive, a bag is blowing by, a leaf moved in the wind ,,,,

Several years ago I had a small flock of guineas and no I did not lock them up at night. Then I had none. Owls get them out of the trees, as do all the other predators on the ground! Now last year I started with guineas again, and they are locked up each night. Mine roost with the chickens but my coop is large enough to handle both poultries. when one female guinea flew into my fenced garden to lay her eggs, I just took food and water to her and let her hatch her eggs inside the enclosed garden. The day they hatched my dh and I caught each one...that was a video worth some money...and I raised them inside a brooder pen inside the coop with their mama to protect them from rodents. I still have them...lost two when they were first turned loose to free range in the daytime.
Sorry, to hijack this thread! I let my guineas in my garden and the de-bug it. LOL
