Goliath is a single mane Lionhead. He started off dark charcoal.... got slightly lighter gray on his sides - then the lighter sides turned cream - then grew in orange fur on top his head & now looks like he does in the photo - He has changed so many times it's crazy!

I know how that is. My lionheads keep losing their wool, then gaining more wool, it's hard to keep up.

I am now stuck choosing between Dutch and Mini Rex, any suggestions?

Been a couple days since we've seen some bunny pics. I'm starting to get the shakes.

This little one turned a week old a couple days ago. I'm not sure, but I think it's my coveted sable point I was hoping for. The other 5 were torts.

(Ignore the glove - I wear them a lot to keep from having to wash my hands so often. Montana is very ... chapping to the skin.)

That's a very dark sable point if that's what it is.

This is what my sable point looked like.

(Aww!)

I'm horrible with being able to visually distinguish some of these colors. No experience yet and some of them seem to vary so much.

Only other thing it could be according to the genetics calculator is a black pearl? Think it's that? It's a mini rex, if that has any bearing on anything.

Here's a birthday pic, it's the one at the bottom of the pile.

It started fairly light, and then when fur started coming in it was a solid pale silvery. Now it looks like the photo above. Here's another shot, different angle.

As far as your question, I've never had dutch, but have heard great things about them. I guess somewhere along the line, the florida whites have some dutch in there, and goodness knows I love the floridas.

But between the two, I'd probably pick mini rex just based on the variety of colors and that amazing fur. Not biased or anything.

I hope this is the right place to ask. My daughter is desperately wanting a rabbit. Hubby and I each had a rabbit when we were kids. Mine was given to my dad after a family funeral. Apparently the rabbit lover died so he brought a rabbit home with us totally unprepared. I want to be prepared this time.

What breeds are good choices with kids? My kids are 3 and 6 and I know they will need to be supervised at all times with the rabbit (or rabbits).

How many should I get? Are they social like goats, so I need more than one?

Where do I find a good rabbit? The feed store has adorable rabbits of unspecified breeds.

Thanks, rabbit gurus.

In my opinion, lop breeds are some of the best for kids. I don't think they need partners, especially if they've never had one. Sometimes you can adopt bonded pairs from the shelters.

I would go with Mini Rex as well - they are soo stinkin cute with their silly big ears & that ultra soft amazing fur. :)

Soo adorable - def have to keep posting update photos to see how it turns out. I had a recent litter of Lionheads, one was that color & now looks like a sable point just a hint darker (I am no color expert - just going by what I've had so far) (he is 11wks now) 1st photo @ 4days - 2nd@ 7days - 3rd@ 15days - 4th@ 24days - 5th@ 33days - 6th@ 40days - 7th@ 11wks(update photo from his new momma)

I have a 4 yr old & a 2 1/2yr old & so far what breeds have worked for us are - Holland Lops, Netherland Dwarfs, Mini Rex/Netherland dwarf mix, Lionhead/Netherland mix, & my Lionheads are a little more "I will let the kid pet me, but I'm going to jump away as soon as it tried something else." Look around your area for what breeds are available - See if you can set up appointments to get a feel for what they have available. Best way to find a bun I think. Personally, I love my crosses the most. They have been way more laid back & sweet when you compare them to a pure bred. Don't overlook that feed store. I recently got a 1/2 Mini rex 1/2 Netherland dwarf female & she's wonderful!

If you know that the bun will have lots of attention then you could have just one. If not then having two that are bonded is not only good for the bun but very enjoyable to watch
