We have about 10 does due tonight and its suppose to get down to 25 so they will all probably kindle ....gunna be a long night!

inthesticks, these are the photos I took today...when I was taking them I discovered on both sides of that area there looks to be open flesh. It is not bleeding and doesn't appear to hurt. I am not experienced in rabbits at all...but I am hoping he was fixed and they didn't stitch him up? Or should I be concerned something is wrong?

LOL those are her scent glands, they are little furless slits on both sides of the "area" that look weird and produce a strong corn chippy smell. The first time I saw them I thought my bunny was deformed or something

but all rabbits have them. Most new rabbit owners are surprised by them because they do look very strange and out of place.

Oh yeah, All 3 of my does are finished kindling. 2 of them turned out to be wonderful mothers which was more than I had hoped for with them all being first time moms. The other girl lost almost all but two which I had to foster.

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one breeding through the winter. I've been bringing kits in at night until they have some fur on them, in case mom uncovers them and then isn't so diligent in covering them back up. Of course, I can't say I hate the opportunity to play with new popples. It's so much fun to see them grunt and pop around.

are the sent glands for mating? And can they have babies at any age? We think this bunny is around 8yrs old. Like I said we found it when we moved someone had dumped her off and we took her in.

The scent glands are for marking territory. The vent is used for mating.
A 8 year old rabbit is too old to breed. Most of the breeders I have heard from retire their rabbits around the age of 4.

It's pretty unusual for a doe to live 8 years, most of mine don't live past about age 5. I've never had one that was fertile past about age 6, though I have heard of some that were.
