I've heard of people using 0.67cc for a Satin, so for a Flemish, you could probably go with a slightly a larger dose (Maybe 0.9cc?). I would treat every three days, for three weeks. (Dura-Pen is known to be effective for 48 hours, but you don't want to overload your rabbit with meds). Also, make sure to not administer this orally. DuraPen should be administered sub-q.

I'm not a vet, but that that is my goal. I have picked up some med information from talking to breeders/other rabbit owners, and some internet sources. I like to keep some medicines in my rabbit health kit, and I find it useful to learn a bit about the medications that I do have just in case I ever need to use them!

For those of you with outside does and funky temps - like cool one day, HOT the next, are you losing kits? I've lost 10 kits in the last 4 litters. Same as the previous batch - one doe lost all her kits, and another even died. They are shaded, have FULL ventilation in their cages, plenty of feed and water. Some days are cool in the 60s, with the next being in the 80, near 90s and no cloud cover.

Also, do you find that your rabbits eat less in the heat?

my rabbits do most of their eating late in the day and at night...they are chillin during the day laying down..its been in the high 90s here and I havent had a prob. with any dieing...yet

All we have here is hotter and hottest. I never could see anything good about it, but at least it's consistent. Everyday I know my challenge is keeping everyone cool enough. One breeder here said it's so hot she can't allow litters at this time of year.

Same here. I don't feed my rabbits until 6-8 pm in the summer. It's been in the high 90s here as well. My rabbits have small, powerful, factory fans hooked up to their cages (the kind used to cool machinery), which really helps them keep cool. On the extremely hot days, I will bring my rabbits inside my house in their travel cages, and put them back outside when the weather cools down at night. I haven't lost a rabbit to heat yet, although I know people that have. I know a few families who have lost kits as well due to the heat.

Have you tried putting frozen water bottle in their cages? All of mine either lay next to, on top of, and in the case of my lop draping her ears over the bottle... it seems to help...



On a side note:
I was just brushing my Flemish buck and out of the blue I checked his vent, on either side of his vent are those little folds of skin normally covered up unless you part the skin... Anyway I checked and both fokd of skin on either side of his vent is covered in brownish scab-like stuff that smells kinda bad. Is that from him not grooming properly or is it an infection? Should I try to clean it out?

Some people's rabbits love frozen water bottles. Mine on the other hand don't touch them...
Definitely clean that out. It could be the start of vent disease, which can be a big, gross problem.
