I believe theres 7,8 or 9 in there, I didnt want to fuss too much just make surre thay were all there and ok

I think you can safely do a more thorough count as long as mom doesn't go crazy while you're poking around in the nest. Give mom a snack; dandelions, a carrot, something super interesting... And count them to make sure there's no dead kits. If you're still worried you can put vanilla on mom's nose and you hands. She won't smell anything but vanilla until after the kits have eaten and smell just like her again.

Or wait. I just always count to make sure there's no stillborn kits. A dead kit in the nest can kill the other kits if left there very long.

Congrats! Are they in a nestbox? I always remove the nest box completely out of the cage when I was poking around or checking on kits. This way it didn't look like something was entering the cage and attacking the kits. More like, Oh my where did my kits go? Oh wait here they are. LOL

Can someone please tell me Why my doe goes thru so......much.....water???? I have three water bottles, one for each cage, I've switched them all over to see if maybe one leaks? Nope! I will fill both water bottles, same size, my buck will go thru half on one day, my doe's is empty. I recently placed my largest one on her cage yesterday, my buck drank half, and she drank half from the larger water bottle! She does this if she's pregnant or not pregnant. What is the deal with her??

They look really cute, how's momma doing? If she has 9 that's alot of mouths to feed. What breed are they?

I dont know the breed Im guess flemish NZ mix from my 15 years of non experience (lol) Shes actually doing sooooo great, lots of milk, Ive been giving her tons of alfalfa dandelion weeds, escarole from my garden, pears from my tree, and bean plant leaves , and calf manna mixed in her pellets, she eats sooo much now and drinks alot of water, Im very proud of how good shes been doing...AND I did a head count just now SHE DID HAVE 9 ,wow

Nope not in a nest box unfortunately, This is her first litter, I got her sunday from a feed store, I had a feeling she was preg, even though they swore she was only with females, Shes around 6-7 months old at best, and well She was HUGE when I got her and I noticed the night before she kindled the kits moving, put in a nest box, she didnt want anything to do with it, so to avoid confusion I took it out, I have wood floors in my hutches so its ok and she made the huge nest in a corner wood on each side lol...I have never had much success with nest boxes EVER in15 years so I kind of gave up on them, and most of my hutches I make with the attached nesting box with a hole and door in the back ya know what I mean?

Gotcha! Well I'm sure that fine if you have wood flooring in the hutch instead of wire. Thats so cool though. I'm so excited for you to have kits!!!

Yeah I was just checking out the ARBA show list for my area and all the show are in October through to December... I've never been to a real rabbit show and would love to go to the national convention some time...

I adore Lionheads and Netherland dwarfs, their both so sweet... is there any difference in showing under youth rather than in a open class???
I find that there isn't much difference the quality of rabbits is the same at my shows there are more open people that always help with youth questions.

The best part about this whole ordeal, Is that I bought 2 does about a month ago. and they were supposed to be bred, they both had false pregnancies, which really made me sad, Since at the time I didnt have my own buck either, and the month before that I also Had the black flemish Giant that was supposed to be bred, and I didnt get babies, I go to buy a buck and saw this doe and picked her up cause it was such a good price and I got Suprise babies lol...It must of been meant to be!! Thank you!! I dont know why Ive never had luck with neest boxes, I gues I never tried hard enough, I was always afraid to move em after they were born into the nest box IDK why, I figure now why bother if Ive never had problems, The only thing Is Sometimes with my does, On the first day or 2 until the kits put on a little weight they get dragged out of the nest when they are stuck to the teat, SO i dont breed from november to march, But amazingly my hutches stay at a pretty good temp in the winter cause of the hay and insulation I have built into the hutches, Luckily I can build anything ( Im a guy) lol not that it has much to do with anything, But I have built MANY MANY MANY Sheds, hutches, coops, garages in my life.
