I took out one of my Lionhead does today while I was cleaning her solid bottomed cage. I have been trying to breed her for months now with no success. I knew I had bred her a while back, but when I palpated her and buck tested her, both were negative (so I thought). I palpated her stomach really fast when I got her out, just for some odd reason, and noted to myself that she has become really fat. I looked back into her cage to start cleaning and noticed a little patch of fur on top of the hay in a corner. I pulled at the fur to see how much there was (thinking she must be having a false pregnancy) when I uncovered a chunk of the hay, I found a litter of three 5(?) day old kits curled up in the hay. Boy was I surprised! Mystery Girl has lived up to her name, she is quite the mystery. I wasn't expecting this litter at all.

Awww! I had a feeling my harlie doe was pregnant because she seems to be staying pretty bulky. I was surprised when I put her in with the buck today that she was pregnant because I never once saw that buck fall off her. LOL So whatever he did worked.

Just a pointer:

When I first tried to breed my doe (the one who had the kits just recently), the buck DID NOT fall off... yet she had two kits. Yes, I watched them the whole time. So, just to be sure, I would get ready for the kits at the due date if you didn't breed her after the first "unsuccessful" breeding.

When I first tried to breed my doe (the one who had the kits just recently), the buck DID NOT fall off... yet she had two kits. Yes, I watched them the whole time. So, just to be sure, I would get ready for the kits at the due date if you didn't breed her after the first "unsuccessful" breeding. 

It wasn't just that he didn't fall off, these does would hunch up and pretty much nail their butts to the floor. Lol I can tell my buck was getting frustrated.

Since you only buck tested her, maybe she is just having a false pregnancy? It's common after a doe has been mounted for her to have a false pregnancy.

Do you mean solid colored rabbits with blue eyes? That is a near impossibility. Solid white rabbits with blue eyes, sure; that's what the Vienna gene does when a rabbit gets two copies of it. But one copy of Vienna and one of the normal gene typically results in a colored rabbit with some white on it, which may or may not have blue eyes. Those are called "Vienna marked." Occasionally, you can get one that has no white on it, nor blue eyes, yet it has a Blue-eyed White parent or gives birth to BEW babies - those are called "Vienna carriers."
