Thanks! I had read so many horror stories, I had the kids expecting the worst. Of course it is still early, but so far everything has gone very smoothly. I told our 4H leader, I need to remember that rabbits have been doing this a long time without my help.I know it's very early on but your story is reassuring regarding a first time mom doing right by her kits. I pray to have the same luck. Congrats on your little piglets. They look great![]()
Question: I tried my first palpation this morning on my non pregnant doe. I didn't feel anything unusual. I was at least expecting to feel the hard pellets in her GI track. Before I attempt the prego bunny, I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Any feedback and or insight is appreciated.
Thank you for your reassurance. I have everyone in my house not expecting much. I will shift that energy - thank you! Do you know anything about palpation or do you just let nature take its course.
I decided to get out of bunnies. I have 4 to get rid of.

So if anyone in Michigan is lookin for pet quality n.dwarf bunnies come see me.
Well, they had two fall offs in the first try. I took her out after that because it looked like she was starting to get annoyed and aggressive with him. I appreciate your approach and that is my goal. However, 115-120 degrees in our brutal summers is a bit much to ask of anyone. Although, the male I got came from a back yard rabbitry that had tarps for shade and misters. The does even kindled in the heat of our summer so they are clearly hardier than I give them credit for. My does came from a rabbitry where the woman kept some outside and the others (including mine) were kept in a garage she had professionally built specifically for the rabbits. It had air conditioning and all cages inside and outside were spotlessly clean. No odor inside or outside. I was pretty surprised to see her set up.I have never not had a doe get pregnant with 3 fall offs on the first try. I don't bother trying to palate or guess. They kindle on day 31 very consistently. Rabbits are much hardier than most people think. Mine are outside year round and I've never lost any to heat or cold. I truly believe that "over care" and babying does not encourage the hardiness they are capable of.
