Okay, so a little off topic....but I was wondering if anyone knew what the breed standard for a mini rex is? Or what a nice mini rex looks like? I'm wanting to get another doe, and I'm curious as to how my buck rates. Thanks!

If you showed me a picture I could rate it, but your best bet is to buy a Standard of Perfection Book. They're about $20 each and the current version will remain up to date for 4 more years.

Personally, I think there are times you have to learn to put those emotions aside and 'do the right thing'. That rabbit is not going to get better and he may hurt someone. I would cull him. I know it is hard, I just had to put my favorite rooster down for coming after me, AGAIN. I just can't have that kind of animal around, it does nothing to improve anything, and with a mean rabbit, it is a liability.

My mom wouldn't kill any animal, nor would she let my dad do it. I am just going to keep him until he dies (who knows when that will be). I have had him for 3 years, and I just can't get rid of him. I bonded with him a lot before he turned on me. However, I have learned my lesson and will not hesitate to put a different biter up for meat pen. I understand I should cull him, but I just can't.

Yep, I almost bought the SOP.....but even $20 is a little out of my budget right now. x) I can post a pic of him though. I'd love to hear your opinion. :)

Now, jeep in mind, I am no Mini Rex expert, but I can make a good general judgement. Got to go get my SOP. Here's my opinion: (I'm thinking of becoming a part time rabbit judge someday, so this is good practice!)
He is a buck right? Keep in mind, it is hard to judge without seeing the animal in person, and I can only rate certain things like the visuals.
Ok, he has good color, and from what I can see, good hindquarters. From what I can see, his ears are a bit on the long side because my buck has the same ear length and was always getting points off for that. I believe the correct size is no longer than your pinkie finger. Judges may hold this against you. By the way, in males, a dewlap should not be present and if it is, it should be very small. The dewlap is the fat under the chin incase you did not know. From what I can see, his head shape is pretty good. Bold eyes (this is good). Good shoulders. I would need to feel the fur. I am seeing short legs, which is good. Overall, he is not a bad rabbit.

Again, I'm no MR expert, and my rating may not be as accurate, since I cannot see the animal in person. Rabbits are very hard to judge by looking at.
By the way, it says that a disqualification from competition is ears over 3 1/2 inches in length. You may want to measure those. If you are planning on showing him, I hope he does well, and I hope those ears do not ruin his chances of competition because he is very pretty!
Note: While ARBA may disqualify for certain things, 4-H might let you get away with it.

Thanks for the opinion! I really am going to have to get myself a copy of the SOP. I do need to get rid of the dewlap....anyone know how to get rid of those? I read somewhere a long time ago that if you feed your bunnies salt, that gets rid of it. But I have no idea where I read that. That could just be stupid, for all I know. x)

I don't think I'll ever take this particular guy to an ARBA show. But I might be doing a 4-H show with him this summer. :) I'm hoping to get a new breeding pair of Mini Rex's, for big shows and such.

Oh yes, and he is a buck. :)

Thanks! :D

There is no way to get rid of a dewlap. Do not feed your rabbit salt! It is bad for them. I'm sure he will do fine in a 4-H show. FYI MRs are a large class and competitive breed. You will be waiting about an hour a color at an ARBA show. Good luck with him!

Just bred my NZ white doe today! She was killing for some babies. This is my first time breeding, so I have some questions.
- Do I switch the feed to a higher protein? I have her on what I believe is 17% protein. I use Purina Show, but do I move her to the higher protein level? (18%)
- Do I feed her Alfalfa hay instead of Timothy?
- now, this is a question regarding color. I have a white doe, that I bred to a red buck. Can the kits be broken? I know black and white NZ's create broken B and W, but I have never seen broken red and white. Is it possible? I don't see why not, but I just have never seen them before.
- Is there any other special care I should be aware of?

Geez. I have baby chicks coming in a few weeks, and then possibly kits not long after the chicks' arrival. My house will be overloaded with baby animals!

This is my 1 year old Lionhead (still growing her fluff), named Trixie.

Her left leg sticks out for some unknown reason... the vet said its limp and it doesn't hurt or affect her, so there's no reason to amputate it. She still gets around fine, thankfully.

My friend had a rabbit with a limp. She sold it to a little girl as a pet. It is no concern. It does not hurt the rabbit and they can walk around fine. She is pretty!

Gosh, everyone's bunnies are so beautiful!
I had a rabbit in college and decided last year to start with them again.

I adopted this little girl that we call Macy:

She is not the most sociable bunny in the world. I am working on bringing her around, and she has been warming up, but she is not much for snuggling. She is playful, on her own terms, mostly just likes to "redecorate", so I make sure to give her lots of fun "toys" and change them often. She likes oatmeal containers with straw & veggie scraps. She lives inside part time & outside part time. She seems to like it better outside - she is more active than indoors - but I worry when it gets chilly & bring her in. Am I being over protective? Maybe.

I have been thinking of getting her a friend, but I know bunnies sometimes don't get along... to the death. So, I have not been actively looking to get another bunny. Plus, I have wanted an English Angora, but hate to buy from breeders when there are so many rabbits that are abandoned each year.

My neighbor volunteers at a horse rescue & they are inundated with non-horses right now.
She said that someone had dropped an Easter impulse bunny off, and she thought he was too sweet to go to just anyone. She said she wanted him to go to a good home. I told her to bring a picture but instead she brought:

He is just a little peanut, and sweet as can be (though a bit tentative about his new situation - or string of new situations). He has found his forever home.
The icing on the cake - a friend is loaning me an Ashford Traditional spinning wheel next Friday, with no strings attached for me to get it back to her. (I know it will be a while before I spin any of his fiber on it - time to practice!)

Now I just need to think of a name for him. I'll try to get some better pics of him tomorrow. We were pretty overwhelmed with excitement this evening. (Don't worry, I took the carrot away from him. The horse rescue folks gave it to him for the ride home.)

Should I try to integrate the two bunnies when he is older, or do bunnies do better on their own?
I hate Macy being by herself when I am at work, but she did not play nicely with her sister & that is why she was re-homed. She has been fixed since I got her and Mr. What's His Name will be as well.
Am I anthropomorphizing, are rabbits happier alone / being able to see other rabbits but not bite them / in a group. I have read 9,000 conflicting things. I would love the advice of some of you who have more than one rabbit, some outside, some inside.

Confuse me more than I already am!
