I am meeting someone in Concord from Lancaster, SC to pick up a blue sizzle hen. I have always wanted one but I never knew what to breed it with. But now I'm breaking down and getting one anyway! I'll post a pic of her when I get her. We should be getting her either Sunday or Monday! Send in your comment and help me produce beautiful chicks.

Also what should I sell them for?

You don't want to breed Frizzle to Frizzle unless you want 25% of your chickens to have serious feathering defects. Breed you Sizzle hen to a Pure Silkie if you can't find a Smooth sizzle roo. You would want to keep the regular feathered birds from that mating, both frizzled and smooht. Then you will have something to breed back to any Sizzles you get.

Those of us working on developing the Sizzle as an accepted breed use the small "s" to denote the smooth birds from a Sizzle mating. What we think of as a Sizzle bird is one that is frizzled but when the breed becomes an accepted breed there will be both smooth and frizzled birds just like any other breed.

A Sizzle is a bird that originated from a Frizzled Cochin and a Silkie, They are being developed by some of us with the goal of becoming a breed of their own.

Featherleg, they are very sweet looking, I am thinking your splash is a rooster, however, depending on age, the wattles and comb are very bright and male looking. Either that or you should expect eggs any day.

You have a very nice start. If I were in your shoes I would use a Silkie as a mate. I approach it differently than some, doing the very selective breeding at the front and forcing as much Silkie blood into the birds early on. By using a Silkie you will increase the size of the crest, decrease the red in the comb and wattles. Not being able to see the skin, I expect it is still yellow. You will get dark skin with a Silkie as a mate as well. No matter what you use you will get some very sweet birds. Using a cochin will increase the probability of single combs and 4 toes, If you can get ahold of a smooth sizzle you will be right on track.

The Sizzles we are looking for will meet the Silkie standard with the only exception being the feathers and they should be barbed or regular feathers.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need any further clarification on what I have discussed.

Yeh, thats right. A silkie is bred to a frizzle cochin. I am so happy. She is coming from SC and meeting us in Concord. She is so nice to meet us all the way from SC to deliver two sizzle hens. They will be bred with our big daddy partridge roo.
