And I would like to point out that I don't think anyone here is trying to be mean/discouraging. But ornamental birds of any kind are not a bird that should be boughten on a whim without having everything you need ready to go. Yes I use to do exactly what you are doing..I'd get a little money in my hand and immediately be running around seeing what I could buy and asking question after question. The smart thing I would say for you to do is PICK the exact bird you would like to do next....look at all the research you can about the species/bird you pick.....and then start to locate breeders. After you have found a breeder start talking with them. See what they recommend you do and then DO IT. Get the pen built first off. Then get your feeders and waterers cleaned up and installed in the pen. And then work on other aspects of the pen. If you started now I would say by spring/summer you could be ready. Find breeders FROM HERE...get away from ebay. I have boughten many eggs off ebay but if I was you I would try and find started pairs of birds instead of eggs. Many of the exotic birds can be hard to brood. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH and then BUILD PEN and BUY SUPPLIES....and then finally BUY.

I have too Charliet, several times. The easy list is VERY short. Ringneck, gold ,amherst,silver and reeves. All the ones everybody has. If they are uncommon and not 500 auctions on ebay for them, there's a reason.

And do agree on the reeves. Nothing hard about keeping them, but those are some of the most people aggressive birds you will every get. If you're not prepaired to get popped, and BLEED, dont get them. I had one once that I just had to catch constantly and trim his spurs, cause he'd go for the face every time. Not his fault, he's just a reeves, that's what they do. Also firebacks and eared can be this way too.

Use all those golds you have and learn for a few years with them, then EASE into others, if your still interested in them after that.


What Tony meant was, it seems you go down the pheasant list, and with each one you find, you ask, ARE THESE EASY TO KEEP?
Outside the above species, the answer is NO. Like everyone has said in every thread, that's not gonna change.
I and several others have given you that link to the GBWF species info page. Read up on them, it tells you a lot about every species in the world, how rare they are, care requirements, and commonness in captivity, the rarer one is, pretty much interpret that in to very hard to keep.

but that has been gone over, imps are not starter birds, and cost any where from 300 to 450 a pair. money that would soon have to be buried with your lack of experience they are supsptable to west nile, they dig constantly and often right out of their pens, and seem at times to die at the drop of a hat. and dont plan on getting hatching eggs from some one either nore chicks most sell only young pairs when they are old enough to tell male from female they also dont handle stress well not saying you can not have them or never will just wait a few yrs till you get the hang of things research also goes along way.

This is my plan. Get my goldens started, get reeves this fall, and get eared in 2012.

Agree with CDT statement.....I should of been more clear...PICK which one you want but work with goldens and or silvers for at least 3-4 years and then move up. Doing what you want to do would be like going from having a gold fish bowl to a reef tank..not a smart idea.

I would not move as fast as your thinking..keep your goldens...see if you can successfully breed and manage them for at least 2 years if you want to move quickly.....Then get a trio of Reeves if you really must. I'm telling you right now if you have never had expirence around a male reeves you should maybe find a breeder near you that has them and go visit. Beautiful yes but ten times meanier than probably the meanest rooster you have ever come across.

oh boy you are not listening i know you want imps but your not ready you need to keep goldens for a few yrs then maybe reeves or somthing like that swinehoe are good to, then eareds( which dig alot to) but few yrs inbetween not just golden now this fall eared next fall imps you will learn nothing and waste valuable birds and money for your sake and the birds sake wait a few yrs in between youll find it better and less frustrating that.
