What sort of bantam should I get?

. You are very experienced and I didn't mean to misrepresent the different breeds.

wasn't correcting it was just the first color i choose and i find one of the easier ones to see. i sometimes use blue or purple but mainly black or red. sorry about any confusion. my animals are like my kiddos (mind you i do have 3 kiddos as well), i handle and care for them the way i do so i know my kids are safe around them one of the reasons i like buying either hatching eggs or very young chicks as i know for a fact how they were handled and treated growing up. i do get older birds at times but i find the older ones i get are very very flighty and act like they have never been handled (let alone the squawking they do in my ears hurts).

Hdowden I understand... My chicks I raised are much different from the adopted ones. My Cochins are slow and waddle around the yard and most of my polish I rescued from Craigslist from people who buy one on impulse at the feed store and they just don't fit into a production flock (to put it nice). My chickens are my kiddos also and my only "pet". I would love to raise more chicks but I keep having a bleeding heart for "spent hens for fish bait". I have adopted much more than I usually do. I have a soft spot for sweet old hens and roosters. .

If your looking to show I would go for Old English Bantam.. They are great.

Japanese Bantams are great. They are so cute, tame very easily and come in lovely colours.

The Roosters are not normally aggressive and you can keep many roosters together if you free range them.

The go broody often and are great mothers.

They won't destroy your garden, as there short legs are not much good at digging up things.

we want to recommend the best breed for you but to do so we really need to know what you are looking for in a breed. we can tell you all day about the many different personalities of bantams with each breed having its own unique qualities such as laying ability, personality, hardiness, ect ect

right now i would recommend getting one of the following due to my personal experience with them d'uccle, cochin, brahma, silkie, oegb, and rosecombs. all of mine are easy to handle and easy for the kids to show and handle. mine are currently not laying but do good at ranging in the yard.
