What State Fits My Family Best?

Yes, KY! I was born and grew up in Florida (too hot, no seasons)...but have lived in KY for over 30 yrs now. We live in a country/farming area (corn, corn everywhere!), housing is cheaper than most places, even lots cheaper than just across the river in Evansville, IN, and so are the property taxes. You can have whatever critters you want and we also have the best fireworks show in our yard every 4th of July!

City people ask me when talking about my chickens...'don't they have ordinances/restrictions about 'those sort of things'??? Ha - NO. Sorry you would think they would need restrictions on 'those sort of things'!

I second this! I am in Darke County-far west, and we have low taxes, low property prices, and fields all around! People are very friendly, too.

Are you anywhere near Owensboro? I can remember as a kid going "across the river to Evansville."

I live in FL but have wanted to move to KY for years now. The Glasgow area is beautiful.

Property is cheap as are property taxes. They do have state income tax though so I'm not sure how much that would offset the savings. Can't be worse than FL.

Southern Washington/Northern Oregon...

- There is plenty of land, and most of it is very nice. This area is filled with all sorts of agriculture because things grow so well here and it isn't too hard on the animals.
- We get all four seasons. Though rainy/gloomy for most of the year that's what adds to the beauty of the land. The winter is fairly rainy and gets some snow (not too much, just right), spring is beautiful with blooming flowers and spring showers, the summers are mild and sunny, and autumn is the way it probably should be.
- Depending on where you're living, then yeah, it really doesn't matter what you have. There are a bunch of rural communities very close to the cities.
- Yep! Pretty much the same answer as above.

Hope this helps.

I agree on Kentucky. My husband is from Massachusets. He does miss getting tons of snow but we generally get just enough to give him a taste of it each year. He loves it here though. Its also a nice distance from the family. Far enough where visits are spread out but close enough where we can make the drive in a day. Cost of living is a TON lower. We are out in the sticks and can raise what we like but we are close enough to the city to get all the culture we would like. Its also a bit more affordable to partake in culture at the same time. I do like upstate new york but I know little of it.

Well...

Now I feel like I should say more.

Wisconsin:

- We get 4 distinctive seasons for sure. It's nice to have such a variety, though it's a place where you need big winter coats and shorts all in one.

- We definitely have the small-town farming feel if you move to a small town. It's what we're known for; cheese and agriculture.

- Beautiful land. Up here, we get gorgeous wildflowers, green, green grass, TONS of trees...

- Lots of state parks. There are TONS of state parks up in Northern WI.

- Like I said before, you might wanna scratch this if you're not for extremes. Feet of snow, and, a mere 6 months later, we're up to 95.
