I have tried to compact my supplies as much as possible
-NPIP papers-Food (or scratch) and water for all your birds.
-own food and water and cups
-Extra shavings
- vetrx or vicks smelling stuff for people for combs and wattles
- Pink Spray Pink is a mink oil based human hair product, spray on and wipe off with microfiber towel
-Terrycloth towels and baby wipes for last minute touch-ups.
-metal flea comb and slicker brush for removing dried poo and feather sheaths from molting
-Adams Flea and Tick spray. Spray under wings, behind neck, and near vent when cooping out.
-clear plastic to put between cages if birds fight
*note: I do all my beaks and nails during the bath so that is one less thing I have to do when I get there

Here's my answers to the questions that haven't already been covered.

1. What do you guys prefer between baby oil, vetrx, and olive oil? and why?

I think VetRX is the best option since it can help the birds health instead of just helping it's "look". The olive oil we have been talking about on this thread is a hair care spray used to add shine to the feathers, so it has a different use then the VetRX and baby oil.

2. Why use tea tree oil for the legs?

I have not used it, but it is on my list of things to add. I did just read that it is dangerous to the bird, so maybe I'll mark it off my list

5. should we be putting leg bands on just before the show or is there a certain age?

Some people band them as soon as they are hatched, but just remember to "upgrade" the band to a larger size as the bird grows.

6. Do judges get upset about cage locks etc?

If you are going to lock your cage, you must be sure it is unlocked before the judge gets to your row!

7. where do you get a retractable judging stick? (grace I'd like to see you in action when is your next show?)

You can order it online or buy one at a poultry show that is large enough to sell poultry supplies (Shawnee is the only show that does in Oklahoma).
I do not have anymore fall shows, but I'll be back at it next spring

8. How does tape and bulldog clips prevent fighting?

By "clear acetate" we mean a product that is just clear plastic. And if there is a plastic divider between the cages the birds would not be able to hurt each other. The reason it must be clear is so the judge can see down the row of birds. The bulldog clips are to hold it in place.

I dilute my tea tree oil in baby oil and have never had a problem with my birds. I have even used it full strength. I have been using it for three years now.

I like Burt's Bees lip balm with peppermint. I rub a little on my fingers and work it into the comb and wattles, not too shiny, doesn't run or drip, and they smell like they brushed their teeth for show day!

I can't be all that bad if they can market it over there. I think the problem is if a bird ingests it.

Was reading some of the items to take to shows and was wondering. Should you spray a Silkie with the Pink? Does it not way down their fluff?

Also are you prepping just before you coop them in or before you leave home for the show. At our show I know the isles are very crowded.
