Anybody ever buy this or something similar??? Just curious. Seems like it would be a good thing to have.
I haven't bought any but I was just thinking about it.
a) Be sure to get variaties that grow in your area. Heirloom seeds are great normally but this thread is not about normal times. Again they may not be for your area.
b) You may not be able to grow plants from store bought food. It may have been grown in a totally different climate, altitude or even country.
c) Unless you have a couple tillable acres you are going to be cramped for growing space. Mellons, corn and grains, squash, berries will take up space fast. I'm not an experienced gardner but I'm thinking herbs, potatoes, pole beans.
d) I love hunting and fishing but in a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI situation you won't have time and everyone else will be fighting over the same resources. (Trust me, Everyone has seen those geese in the Park.) You would be better off honing your trapping skills. (Traps are man's FIRST robot.) You won't care how they were trapped when your kids are hungry so don't overlook leg hold traps. That being said, live traps could give you some breeding pairs.
e) Water will be more important than food in the beginning. A LOT of people have a Berky filter but there are others. Under $400. (Think Birthday / Christmas gift). You could filter ditch water with these if need be. Might be a good trade item also. (Most of the people who died in Katrina, died of dehydration, waiting to be rescued. They were surrounded by water with nothing to drink.) Even without flooding, after a few days without water your electrolytes begin shifting and you go BS crazy. Then it WILL look like a Zombie Apocalypse!
f) Power outage or at best rolling blackouts can be expected. Gas generators will work for a while but consider a battery / solar generator. Jackery, Bluetti, Generak & others make Lithium battery storage units that store energy during outages and even generate power with solar panels. Not cheap and won't run a heater or AC but could give you lights, fan, communications. Possibly refrigeration with a small 120VAC or 12VAC unit.
g) Heat. If your lucky you have a fireplace or stove and plently of wood (You will need a lot more than you thought.) Short term get a propane heater. (Don't forget to crack a window.) One of those insulated hunting or sking coveralls for everyone will help. Buy at the end of hunting season.
h) I'm not going into details but things will get crazy quick. You need to think about protection for yourself and family. Be realistic about what your going to want to have before you need it. You don't have a choice if things aren't available.
i) Best to stock up on dry goods when you can. If it's not refrigerated at the store, it probably won't need to be refrigerated at home. Also salt, spices, vitamins, medications (Rx and first aid).
As you can see I've been overthinking this a long time. But remember,
They don't bury survivors!

OMG I had no idea this was a thing!! That’s amazing!!! Also I wish there was a movie about it lol there should be. Also the whole “top secret, remote, in a glacier” vibe kinda makes me wanna break in 🤣🤣🤣👀🙈🙈🙈
I'd probably rather eat grass or other humans before eating twinkies.
Psst you don't want to eat grass. It might not end well.
Lmfaooo y’all would resort to cannibalism when we have a GARDEN coming soon!? 💀🤣😭😭

I love all this!! It’s extremely informative and fascinating so thanks!!! A lot of stuff I hadn’t thought about hahah thankfully my medicines I’ve been getting in 3 month supplies lately and I was gonna cancel it (accidentally hit it and I have a ton now) but then I figured it might be good in case I lose my insurance or, now that I’ve been thinking about disasters, if a disaster occurs.
