What the back did I buy?

I thought you got eggs and ducklings but the ducklings could not breed???
I-Utah is correct. mules.
the white one in the foreground looks like a Pekin to me.
the one on the left foreground is a
muscovy drake.
by the time they are a year old there is no problem telling the drakes from the hens. the drakes will be twice as big as the hens.
the hens will have a more rounded head compared to the more flat top of the drake..
the muscove is the only duck that is not derived from the mallard. it is a species in it's own right.
the meat is darker..and they are delicious..
we butchered 70 of them one year. my wife says she never wants to see another one.. LOL

While Muscovy crosses, breed, lay, and sit on eggs just like other ducks, they cannot throw babies as the males are sterile and the females are infertile. To me, the pure-bred scovy (white with the caruncles) looks like an adult female. If that is the bird that is flying, then I'm even more confident that duck is a female.

I will not guess gender of the crosses based on the picture shown, especially not knowing ages of the birds, but agree that boys will be larger than girls and will also sound different. Generally, boys are quieter overall than females, and crosses sound more like muscovy, but the girls will quack like a domestic duck if in distress.

FYI, I have purebred muscovies and domestic ducks, as well as 3 female hinnies and 1 male hinny (i.e., father is scovy and mother is domestic).
