What The Heck is This??!!

Okay so she is about the same, she IS pooping and it looks normal, kind of slimy with jelly type stuff in it??

Gave her another bath and got her to eat the Baytril I crushed up into a tiny bit of canned dog food. She wanted nothing to do with the Tums wrapped in cheese. May try to crush it tomorrow and mix it with pumpkin. She's eating some pumpkin now, also made her another scrambled egg with crushed egg shell, but she's only eating the pumpkin.

So I was able to hold her and give her a good look over, her rear area is red but also the poop on her feathers I'm sure is causing irritation. I haven't been able to get it washed off yet, haven't come up with a way to get her to tolerate. Tried the bathroom sink, nope. Maybe the kitchen sink tomorrow, it's bigger. Anyway, yes so her vent looked normal. She doesn't feel swollen and I can't feel an egg for nothin. So I grabbed some Vaseline and did something I didn't think I would ever find myself doing lol, I put my finger in about an inch and a half and felt NOTHING?? No egg, no shell, nothing. Did I go in far enough?

Put her to "bed" but the poor thing won't lay down yet, she's just standing there :( Maybe she will eventually? I put a roost in there for her but she wasn't interested, so...she's standing on the floor *shrug*

Nope. Just let her rest. She may be alright. If she keeps eating, she may not be bound, just recovering from the lash egg. None of the treatment given should hurt her if she isn't bound. there are many things that have similar symptoms. Asking the vet never hurts, especially if you can get him to look at her. Antibiotics are a good follow-up to this, just in case. You are doing just fine.

If she is standing like a duck, that can indicate egg yolk peritonitis, or egg binding if you found the egg. That's what the swelling would signal, but if caught early you can keep the swelling down. The antibiotics will knock out peritonitis if you are lucky, if it is indeed peritonitis. Peritonitis is an infection of the peritoneum, the lining of the body cavity, that can happen when that egg that broke inside her grows bacteria. You can get a hen through this too.

Oh also, @Bantambird with the lash egg-the pics I saw in that article looked way different than what i pulled from her vent in the beginning of the post. Shouldn't there have been like a glob of gunk?

Well, what you pulled out looked like a membrane to me, but I haven't seen a whole lot of lash eggs. I have pulled what you pulled out of a cream Legbar hen once, and then she had it happen again, a shelless egg that broke, untill one time I didn't catch it an she died to this. I can say that there are no bird vets where I am, so I have learned mostly from experience, searching these forums, and cross referencing my mother, who is a mammal veterinarian. I myself, however, am not a vet, but was hoping to help someone out there like I have been helped. I love chickens, I love people, and I want to help those who need help. If you can get your vet to look at her even a vet that deals in mammals can do a basic health assessment.
The poop you described, did it have the goop?

The poop looked normal, nothing really that resembled the pics of lash eggs that I saw. It had some slime/mucous in it. I took a pic, should I post it?

Eta-you have helped a lot and I am very grateful :D I've learned a lot through this! So I think you succeeded :)

The slime could be albumen, but online, this is all difficult to know. Again, I'm going off of what happened to me and several of my hens. The one that closest resembled what you have, also had slimy poos when she pooped. I lubed her up and found more membrane inside her, and it was somewhat dessicated. I used mineral oil to loosen it up and eventually she passed it and was normal for a few weeks until she had another busted shelless egg in her oviduct. I bathed her, warmed her, got it out, but the 3rd time she hid from me and I missed it, and she died. Her shell glands were probably defective in my case. For you it's hard to know, until we know what makes her feel better.

Okie dokie! Well like you said earlier, now we wait it's up to the chicken :)

She's still alive this morning, pretty much the same as yesterday so we'll see what today brings!
